Changes to Old Rd number 4 bus service
As of Sunday 1st September the number 4 bus will operate in both directions via Churchill Drive and Roosevelt Drive, omitting much of Old Rd. The Old Rd/Valentia Rd bus stops will no longer serve in either direction, and the Old Rd/Lime Walk west-bound will no longer operate. We have as yet received no clear reply as to whether the Old Rd/back of NOC bus stop will operate east-bound or whether it will be necessary to use the Churchill Drive stop. We have asked Oxford Bus Company to post information at bus stops and on buses. ...on behalf of Thames Valley Police have sent us the following message: Thames Valley Police have received several reports of a man ringing doorbells and asking for money. The latest incident occurred on Saturday (3/11) at around 11pm when a man rang the doorbell of a house in Perrin Street, Headington, Oxford. The man said his name was “James Stevens” and that he was a neighbour who needed help because he had locked himself out of his house. The victim opened the door and the man explained that his mother had a spare key at her house therefore he needed to borrow some money to get there and pick up the key. He insisted on giving his mobile number and asked the victim to call him so he had her number. The victim gave the man £20 and said he would return the next day to pay the money back. He did not. The man is described as a white man, about 40-years-old, approximately 5ft 8in tall of medium build with short, dark brown hair and a short brown beard. He was wearing dark clothing and carried a black bag. If someone fitting the description does call at your house, do not open the door. Call the police on 999. For fraud advice please visit our website – https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/ Update from Oxfordshire County Council on 12th October 2018 as follows:- Traffic Management Work continues at the Marsh Lane/Cherwell Drive junctions and the John Radcliffe Hospital access. Encouraged by the recent renaissance in Community Cinema, HRA plans to hold regular cinema evenings in All Saint's Church House on New High Street. The aim is to show interesting films in a social context with drinks and refreshments provided. We need to pay a licence fee to show each film so a modest charge will be made for admission. The next Cinema Evening will be held on 16th November; 7:00 for a 7:30pm start, followed by another in January and then March 2019. We do hope you will support this new venture and if you have any suggestions for titles you'd like to see, please let us know. Generally, people in our area love trees. But do you know the names of the trees in our residents’ association area, the ones you go past all the time? We do have a very great variety, 29 different trees just in the HRA area, and only counting public spaces! The list below is of the tree types just in the public spaces of the HRA “territory”, though including the park in Valentia Road – as that is at the end of Finch Close and Brookside gardens. So, the area bounded by Old Road, Valentia Road, London Road, and Lime Walk, but including Nursery Close and All Saints churchyard. There’s also an HRA “pan handle” along Old Road to the traffic lights at the Windmill Road junction. There are very many other fine and interesting trees in front gardens and behind fences and walls, but these are not included – it’s just public space trees. The list of Highfield Trees should help you find the name of the trees you pass, as it gives a brief description and where found. There are 29 different types! In the Gallery can be seen a photo of the very fine Black Locust tree at the end of Barrington Close with, on its left a Downy Birch and on its the right a Maple.
