Planned night time road closures for surfacing When: 15th October to 9th November 7pm – 6am Phase 1: Marsh Lane completely closed (except residents access) between Headley Way and Ashlong Drive for 5-9 days, Headley Way on traffic lights Phase 2: Marston Road completely closed (except residents access) between Headley Way and Oxford Road for 5-9 days, Headley Way on traffic lights Phase 3: JR Access on temporary lights, after Phase 1 & 2 are complete. For full details and further info see the County Council website here. Generally, people in our area love trees. But do you know the names of the trees in our residents’ association area, the ones you go past all the time? We do have a very great variety, 29 different trees just in the HRA area, and only counting public spaces! The list below is of the tree types just in the public spaces of the HRA “territory”, though including the park in Valentia Road – as that is at the end of Finch Close and Brookside gardens. So, the area bounded by Old Road, Valentia Road, London Road, and Lime Walk, but including Nursery Close and All Saints churchyard. There’s also an HRA “pan handle” along Old Road to the traffic lights at the Windmill Road junction. There are very many other fine and interesting trees in front gardens and behind fences and walls, but these are not included – it’s just public space trees. The list of Highfield Trees should help you find the name of the trees you pass, as it gives a brief description and where found. There are 29 different types! In the Gallery can be seen a photo of the very fine Black Locust tree at the end of Barrington Close with, on its left a Downy Birch and on its the right a Maple. The East Area Planning Committee agenda for tomorrow week, 4 July, is now online - you can find it here.
The first item on the agenda is "Oxford Heritage Asset Register nominations", and the Committee is recommended to approve *all* of them. In Highfield this means All Saints' Church and All Saints' Vicarage. Question: Shouldn't there be additional heritage buildings on there including the Farmhouse in Highfield Avenue and the Architect-designed house at the far end of the same road - and architect-designed Arts & Crafts house halfway down Bickerton Road? And what about the Brittania barn building opposite Kwik Fit at the London Road end of Lime Walk, or the stone wall on Old Road, adjacent to the old Park Hospital site and more? Why aren't they on there? Can you suggest any more? Please Comment on this post if you have any further information or can think of any more suggestions, as there will be further opportunities to add more in the next round. Headington Campus Development Plan & Clive Booth Student Village Redevelopment Oxford Brookes University are formulating their plans for the redevelopment of the Clive Booth Student Village, and considering the long-term changes to their estate through a Campus Development Plan. They say: "We held an initial exhibition in March 2018 to introduce you to the proposals, including the replacement of the Helena Kennedy building, for which an application is currently under consideration with Oxford City Council. The exhibition will be an opportunity for you to understand the detailed design proposals and the Campus Development Plan and provide your feedback to the University and design team ahead of a detailed planning application being submitted in the summer." Exhibion details:: Venue: Clive Booth Student Village Post Graduate Centre, John Garne Way, OX3 0FP Dates: Wednesday 27th June 3-7pm & Thursday 28th June 3-7pm Members of the Project Team will be available at the exhibition to help answer any questions that may arise. Download a PDF of the proposals here. The Local Boundaries Commission for England is asking local people and organisations to comment on its draft recommendations for new ward boundaries across Oxford. They say: "We have an open mind about further suggestions from local people to change and improve these recommendations. We will consider all the submissions we receive whoever they are from and whether your evidence applies to the whole of Oxford or just a part of the city." On their website, you can see its proposals for new ward boundaries. You can compare the proposals (in red) to the existing boundaries (in blue) and search across the whole of Oxford, even down to street level. You can also click on any ward to find out how many voters are included in it and how many councillors we propose should represent it. You can submit comments to us or upload a document by clicking on the 'Have your say' link at the top of the page. You can also draw your own boundaries and annotate the map by clicking on the button. There is plenty of information to help you make a submission in the 'Useful links' section at the bottom right of the page. Deadline: This stage of the consultation closes on 13 August 2018. We have just received this information from the County Council. “You will all no doubt be aware the Oxfordshire Growth Board announced the Year 1 growth project allocations yesterday and A2H received the full monies asked for. The announcement came a week earlier than we were expecting, it means that the Headley Way works will be continuing as originally scoped. I will update you with more information when I have it but the intention will be to start the Headley Way works after Easter, an Easter start would then have the programme running to Christmas 2018 (weather permitting). We will start at the Marsh Lane roundabouts as per our original programme but the programme at the JR access will be changed as we’ve managed to do some early works in advance that should reduce the disruption there. As before, we will be undertaking a pre-construction exhibition at a location/time TBC. The funding announcement also allows us to reintroduce elements of the work that were removed from scope including the pedestrian crossing on London Road at the Osler Road bus gate. A plan is attached showing the proposals for your information. The proposals differ from the originals in the following way:
We are checking that works to trees can be done at this time, bearing in mind that this is the start of the nesting season. Please note that due to the inclement weather the HRA OxClean Litter Pick has been cancelled and rescheduled for:
New Date: Saturday 21st April 2018 All other details remain the same Spring Litterpick Saturday 3rd March 2018 10:00am Meet at the HRA Community Noticeboard in All Saints' Road Help keep our neighbourhood tidy! Join us for the Highfield annual litterpick. We provide the gloves, equipment and refreshments (indoors!) afterwards. Everyone welcome - come along with your family, friends and enthusiasm to help us spring-clean the area. Hope you can join us ! In association with Oxford Civic Society's OxClean and Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean There seems to be some confusion about what can go in our blue (recycling) wheely bins; the City Council give this advice: "Please place recycling loose in your blue bin/sack or in a clear bag. We cannot collect recycling contained in black bags. Recycling bins/sacks containing black bags will not be emptied. Please also rinse glass bottles, jars, cartons, plastic bottles and cans, as this helps to keep your bin clean. Squashing recycling also saves space in your bin and the collection vehicle." To check their list of what we can and can't accept for recycling and what can go in your other bins please see the Council website here. Co-wheels offers reduced membership for a limited period: Lifetime membership just £1 and get £25 driving credit Co-wheels have a time-limited membership offer for Oxford; they have cut the £25 joining fee to just £1, there is no monthly fee - normally £5 a month - AND they give you £25 driving credit to find out how good their service really is. That's membership benefits worth £110 in the first year alone - all for £1! Visit their website to sign up or find out more. The offer code is: OXFORD110. One of the best performing Councils in the country; Oxfordshire County Council is consulting local residents on its recycling strategy through to 2030.
The Counties residents have been recycling at a rate of approx. 60% of all rubbish - a fantastic achievement - but rates are starting to fall. "Through this consultation residents are being asked what would help them to reduce their overall waste consumption and recycle more. This includes expanding the range of materials that can be recycled at the kerbside and tips and advice on left-over food, upcycling clothing or donating or buying second hand goods. The councils are also seeking views on more radical schemes that have been implemented elsewhere in the country, such as changing bin sizes and collection frequency." Do you want to recycle and reduce waste more? If so, please help by taking part in the online survey at www.recycleforoxfordshire.org.uk. The survey is open now and will close on 18th February 2018. Oxford City Council is consulting on additions to the Oxford Heritage Asset Register. It wants your comments about heritage assets.
The consultation starts 29 January 2018 and ends 26 February 2018. For information visit: https://t.co/Ep9fr6Ntat To participate in the OHAR consultation visit: https://t.co/sRCRFC9wRl |
