Lime Walk planter maintenance by the HRA Garden Group team
The Highfield Garden group is for anyone who enjoys gardens or would like to share advice and tips, and even plants. In summer we meet up once a month to have a drink and a chat in the garden of whoever in the group has volunteered to host that month. It’s a great social event and an opportunity to exchange ideas, questions and problems. During times of lockdown this year, some members have made video tours of their gardens to circulate to the group.
We hope in future years to hold our open gardens event again during June.
If you’re interested in being part of this group and would like to be added to the mailing list, let us know here.
Sunflower-growing competition 2020
As mentioned in the HRA Update of 14 May, Bateman St., Norton Close and Gardiner St. were busy planting sunflower seeds and invited HRA to join in. It’s been wonderful to see the sunflowers that residents have planted and nurtured throughout the summer, some flowering early in the season, others in the autumn.
The tallest reached an incredible 3.15m in Latimer Rd, next came 2.79m in Old Rd, followed by Lime Walk’s front garden wonder, beaming at the world from afar, measuring 2.51m. Thank you to all who took part, and let’s have even more sunflowers to cheer us on our way in 2021.
