Highfield Residents’ Association is committed to maintaining and improving the quality of our environment. We endeavour to do this on various levels; for example we take part in the annual OxClean litter pick, and a number of individuals and groups clean up litter on a regular basis to keep our streets, pavements and verges as litter-free as we can.
In addition to informing members of talks and events covering environmental issues, we monitor and respond to planning applications in order to preserve and protect Highfield’s heritage and appearance. This involves working with entities such as:-
Oxford City Council
Oxford County Council
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust
Oxford University
Oxford Brookes University, and
The Environment Agency
Examples of our activities in this area include representations to Oxford County Council regarding through traffic and also the Access to Headington traffic initiative; to Oxford City Council about student accommodation developments; to Oxford University about further development of the Old Rd Campus, and less recently to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust about the hot-water pipeline linking the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals; and input to the Headington Neighbourhood Plan.
Our overall aim is to promote safety in our streets and maintain a congenial environment; in this we are greatly assisted by our local Councillors and PCSOs.
We also invite HRA members to contact us at [email protected] about areas of concern, and encourage people to report matters having a negative impact on our surroundings. Any such information is recorded in the Incident Book, enabling us to trace patterns, inform relevant parties and propose solutions.
